Audra Mcdonald is a standout in the breadth of her talent and versatility as a singer and actor. As the winner of a record-breaking seven Tony Awards (two Grammy Awards) as well as an Emmy Award, McDonald was listed in Time magazine's list of 100 influential people in the year 2015. The president also awarded her Obama's National Medal of Arts for her achievements. A luminous soprano, and an unrivalled talent to tell the truth her voice is comfortable on Broadway and the opera stage as in her role in television and film. In addition to performing on stage, she has built a career that includes a significant performance and recording career. She performs regularly at top places. A musically inclined family, McDonald was raised within Fresno California and received her singing training in the classical style at the New York's Juilliard School. Following her graduation, she was awarded her first Tony Award as Best Performance of a Featured Artist musical at the Lincoln Center Theater for Carousel (1994). Over the next four years she received two additional Tony Awards in the featured actress category for her performance on the Broadway productions Terrence McNally's production Master Class (1996) and his show Ragtime (1998) giving her the record-breaking total of three Tony Awards before the age of 30. In 2004, she received her fourth Tony for her role as Sean Diddy Combs in A Raisin in the Sun and in 2012, she took home her fifth Tony Award, and her first win in the lead actress category in the role of her lead in The Gershwins Porgy and Bess. In 2014 she made Broadway history by becoming an official Tony Awards most decorated performer after she received her sixth award for her performance as Billie Holiday in Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill the role which was also the basis for her Olivier Award-nominated debut performance on London's West End. Not only did she set records for the highest number of wins in an award-giving category for an actor, she became the first actor to win awards for each of the four types of acting. McDonald is also featured on The Secret Garden (1993), Marie Christine (1999), Henry IV (2004) as well as 110 In The Shade (2007 Twelfth night (2009) and the musical Shuffle Along: The Making of the Musical Shock in 1921 as well as Everything That Followed (2016). She made her Public Theater Shakespeare in the Park debut in Twelfth Nacht (2009). McDonald was introduced to the television audience for her dramatic performance in Peabody Award winning CBS's Having Our Say the Delany Sisters first 100 years. Her next appearance was as a recurring actor in NBC's Law & Order Special Victims Unit and she starred alongside Kathy Bates and Victor Garber. McDonald's Emmy nominated performance as Emma Thompson on Mike Nichols' HBO film adaptation of Pulitzer Prize winner Wit was written by Mike Nichols. McDonald's return to the network TV screen was in 2003, when she starred with Josh Brolin in Mister Sterling. McDonald became a character on The Bedford Diaries on the WB series The Bedford Diaries in early 2006. Following the season, she played a recurring character on NBC's television show Kidnapped. McDonald's character in HBO movie Lady Day At Emerson Bar Restaurant earned her a four-time Emmy nomination in 2016. The Bite was a six episode pandemic themed drama produced in collaboration with Spectrum Originals in collaboration with CBS Studios. McDonald was U.S. prosecutor Liz Lawrence, a character she first was seen in the CBS drama The Good Wife legal drama in 2009. It was her turn to reprise the role in the year 2018, playing season the regular Liz Reddick in Paramount+'s The Good Fight. As a result of her role, McDonald received three Critics Choice Award nominations. The actress is a featured character on HBO's The Gilded Age by Julian Fellowes.
