Catherine Ford is a British actress who was born in Bloomsbury. Following the time her father's departure from her family members, she was brought up by her mother grandparents, and godparents. As a child she was suffering from an obsessive compulsive disorder, suffering anxiety related to word associations. Ford started acting in her teens, and was a member of the National Youth Theatre. Ford was accepted into the Sylvia Young Theatre School, but after just a few days, decided that she was a poor choice for this school. Ford rather applied to the Central School of Speech and Drama and was able to secure an acceptance on her fourth application. Shaun Dingwall was one of Ford's classmates. Shaun Dingwall would go on to have frequent roles on the show as Pete Tyler and Doctor Who. Ford graduated in 1993, but she already made a TV appearance in a 1992 episode of Surgical Spirit. She adopted the title Catherine Tate. Tate was featured in a variety of television programmes including The Bill, Men Behaving Badly as well as London's Burning in the Nineties. She worked on stage regularly, and joined The Royal Shakespeare Company's 2000-2001 season. Tate received recognition for her stand-up comedy and has been added to her repertoire in 1996.
